The province of Ontario has determined 21,500 nominations in 2024 for receiving PR status in Canada through the Provincial Immigration Programme (OINP). This is an increase of 5,000 nominations compared to 2023. This is great news for Ukrainians and their families in Canada, as the majority of CUAET visa holders have settled in Ontario.<\/p>\n
The increase in the number of nominations for receiving PR status in Canada became possible after a meeting of the Federation of Ministers Responsible for Immigration with Mark Miller (the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada) in November 2023.<\/p>\n
It was agreed not only to increase the number of nominations for provinces under the Provincial Nominee Programmes (PNP) for receiving PR status in Canada, but also to improve the immigration process itself (reducing the time for applications processing, eliminating duplication of immigration pathways in provincial and federal programmes, issuing employment permits (LMIA) in accordance with local labour market needs, etc.)<\/p>\n
Each province in Canada (except Nunavut and Quebec) receives a number of nominations from the federal government each year. The number of nominations is based on calculations of local provincial governments in their capacity to accept new immigrants, immigration plans and labour market conditions. The number of nominations under provincial immigration programmes (PNP) is expected to exceed 110,000 in 2024, which will be higher than the number of nominations under Express Entry Canada.<\/p>\n
