Temporary workers in Yukon will be granted PR status in Canada with greater support from the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). On 1 October 2024, Marc Miller, the Head of IRCC, announced an agreement between the federal Government of Canada and the Government of Yukon on additional support measures for temporary workers in the territory on their way of applying for permanent resident status by 2027.

The recent reorganization of Canada’s immigration system is leading to significant changes not only for temporary residents who are already in the country, but also for their families. Marc Miller, the head of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), has announced the introduction of new restrictions on staying in the country for family members of certain categories of workers and students.

On 30 September 2024, new rules for submitting Expressions of Interest under the Alberta Provincial NomineeProgramme (AAIP) will come into effect. These applications will need to be submitted in order to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to begin the process of becoming a permanent resident of Canada.
